To Break Bread is to engage in a comfortable, friendly interaction. Originally, the term was literal, meaning that a loaf of bread would be broken to share and eat, a casual meal among associates. Today, the term is used to describe a social interaction where something is shared. This could be food, money, commodities, assets, or other various items.

All forms of exercise will require sufficient oxygen to energise the muscles to perform.

If your breathing and heart rate cope with the demand it is called aerobic respiration exercise.
If they do not cope, then you move into anaerobic respiration exercise which builds lactic acid, carbon dioxide and a host of other long term toxic components.

True cardio vascular fitness is how long you can stay in aerobic respiration and at what intensity.

What is your fitness like?

Discussed keto-diet with someone today. He had not measured the effects (positive or negative) it was having on him so he was relying on "this is supposed to be good for me".

My best advice to anyone one doing something to be "healthier" is take before and after objective measurements that show the physiological benefits for you individually.

This allows you to make the best decisions for you.

Stillness is a vital part of the process of health and healing.

Can you sit or lie and do nothing with your eyes closed without falling asleep for 30minutes every day?

Your resting heart rate is a great way of checking this.

Pelvic pressure is uncommon, often embarassing topic of conversation with patients however it certainly happens more than one would expect.

Sustained pelvic pressure occur from the wrong usage or lack of correct usage of abdominal and spinal support. So now your spinal support I not longer lifting you out of your pelvis.

Pelvic pressure presents in a variety of different ways:
Bladder, bowel or vaginal issues in women (pain or incontinence)
Bladder, prostate and bowel issues in men (pain or incontinence)
Hernias
Hemorrhoids
Sexual dysfunction

Spinal retraining is possible but must be specifically targetted based on the issue.

October is spinal health awareness month. Many do not recognise that spinal health starts as the baby is born and feels gravity for the 1st time. Children should see a chiropractor proactively to ensure great spinal development!

A simple exercise to release pressure in the base of the spine; best done morning and evening.

Lie on your back on the bed; bring your knees to your chest, wrap your hands around the knees and try interlace your fingers. Hold for 5 seconds and then release. Repeat 3 to 5 times.

Do not pull your knees closer but rather let the tightness in the hips release.

The ying-yang philosophy indicates that ying and yang are not opposites but equally balanced forces that maintains all in equilibrium. From a health perspective it asks that you have, within each day, equally balanced activities. Equally balanced not in terms of time but in terms of quality and effect on your body.

As examples
-    if you sit for most of your day especially in a hunched forward position then you would need to spend some time offloading your spine in extension.
-    If you are always busy doing something you would need to have some time doing nothing…actually doing nothing!
-    Your awake time must be counterbalanced by your sleep. That means your sleep should rejuvenate you ready for the next day.
-    Serious counterbalanced by fun
-    Analytical counterbalanced by creativity
-    Fear counterbalanced by hope
-    Resentment counterbalanced by forgiveness
-    Intensive exercise counterbalanced by gentle movement (like yoga?)

Think about your day and your activities; what is your counterbalance?

We have certainly moved into hot weather and still waiting for the 1st major rains of summer.

Please note that dehydration is a significant cause of inflammation in the body.

Drink enough water to keep your urine clear and without smell
Consider electrolytes (rehydrate or coconut water)
Remember diuretics (coffee, tea, salt, soft drinks, alcohol) require more water to neutralize their effect on the body

It’s common to believe that posture is simply just about cosmetic appearances.

However posture is directly related to the activation and function of different parts of your brain.

When you slouch forward and round your spine, you over-engage the back of the brain (the brain stem) which is the reptilian brain - based on survival.

When you sit upright and you’re engaging the correct spinal muscles, that are there to support your spine, you activate the prefrontal cortex which is designed for the executive functions of the brain - based on thrival.

The survival brain will kick in shallow breathing, increased heart rate, compression to the digestive system, traction on circulation and push your adrenals in compensation.

Activating the thriving brain allows one to stay calm and orderly under the pressures and challenges of life..

Between surviving and thriving where are you now?

This subtle signs that your body is working as it should or not working as cleanly as it should.

On a spectrum between 1 & 10; 10 being full function and 1 being full interference...where are you now?

For most the concept of stress is the external factors that challenge your mind, mental and emotional state.

We do not give consideration for effectiveness of the neurological processes that have to occur every moment of the day in order to keep the body functioning correctly.

Therefore internal stress is simply put - how hard your body; your nerve system has to work in order to keep all systems functioning correctly.

We determine how much internal stress based on how my tension and compression sit on the spine.

The more stress, the slower the neurological conductivity; the less resilience to external challenges.

Do you take note of your neurological stress?
