The body has two choices when it recieves a challenge...either to compensate or to adapt.
We recieve a variety of stressors and challenges in a daily bases - physically, emotionally, chemically and the like!
Compensation allows for survival and continuation but it forces different parts of the body to get involved where they were not designed to. Compensation weakens the body and long term will create irreparable damage.
Adaptation is an intelligent process that allows the body and all its part to co-ordinate, strengthen and become more effective. Thus maximising resilience to further challenge.
Ask yourself, are you compensating or adapting?

For many people they are not aware that their body has accumulated stress and tension...they feel it is normal.
The body was designed to have a 30 minute stress response - that is to say from the initiation of stress (the lion attacking you!) until the time you have recovered should be 30 minutes. The stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol and noradrenaline) are not harmful in the body if they move out of circulation within 30 minutes or so.
For most people low grade stress keeps those levels higher and for longer than what is healthy. Then on top of that accumulation other more major stressors occur.
The glass continues to fill up with out any respite, this is where the damage of stress is done.

The inertia law of motion states that an object in motion will stay along its path of motion as long as the surface is without friction. This means there is no stress or resistance on the object.
In reality we all know that life is full of friction and resistance and this is what creates stress on our minds and bodies and creates Drag!
So option 1 is find the path of least resistance.
The second part to the rule is - as long as the object is not acted upon by a greater force it will continue for ever.
This means that we have to strengthen our bodies so that they can withstand those challenges that are of greater force.
Rest easy and recover.
Often people tell me about their wrist, hand and finger issues. These exercises will help you establish where you going wrong with your movements.

We are a huge proponent of exercise and activity; especially diverse activities...things you have never done or tried before. This offers your body the chance of learning new skills and adapt.

I was asked about Gout today in conjunction to my Athritis post. Gout has a serious relationship to acidity and toxicity but also indicates something missing in your metabolism.

It is so common that I hear patients complaining of arthritis. Yet, when I investigate through X-rays or MRI the degree of arthritic change is often not is significant as the symptoms that they have.
What we know, is arthritic degenerative change is made significantly worse by acidity and toxicity in the body and extent of inflammation. So my work with people with arthritis is two fold -
1. down regulate the acidity and toxicity in the body through diet and detox.
2. Improve the amount and quality of movement through Chiropractic Adjustments and corrective daily exercises.
3. Improve circulation through effective massage to clear the lymphatic system. Rebounding works similarly.
In doing so we help reduce the pain associated with Arthritis and the person complains less. I have found the same applies to other forms of Chronic Pain including fibromyalgia.
