It is common for a patient to ask me how often must they come see me and for how long they need to do his for. This can be explain through these few concepts:
- What is the purpose of your visit to the chiropractor? Every visit with Chiropractic is to check the response of the intelligence that your body had to the previous adjustment. Was there just a temporary shift in movement quality or was there an upgrade to the habit of your body's function? If the habit was upgraded, then the next adjustment is to facilitate that continual improvement. Otherwise each adjustment is merely a "click and a pop" to make you feel better and only for that moment.
- What is your expected Quality of Life? To simplify this, the majority of people who consult with me do so because of some ache, pain or symptom. However it is your reduced quality of life that brings you into the office and should be your main concern. Sadly, I have noticed that very few patients actually conceptualize what is their expected quality of life. What is your optimal state, if your body's intelligence worked at its maximum effectiveness...how much better would that feel?
- How severe is the problem you are in? Most people start their life out functioning effectively and developing maximally. Along that path there are various and a variety of stressors (physical, emotional or chemical) that have to be dealt with. In dealing with your body's intelligence, either it adapts and maintains optimal health or it compensates. Compensation will result in a layered deterioration of your body's intelligence to express its maximum function and at some point (either suddenly or slowly) symptoms occur and that diminished quality of life begins to show.
- What phase on the pathway to health are you in? To restore a person's quality of life, follows very distinctive phases. The first phase aims at pain relief, designed to get your body's functioning above a threshold where compensation is less and therefore deterioration is less noticeable. The second phase is to stabilize that improvement. People often stop prematurely in this phase and within a few months the state of their problems are straight back to square one. The third phase is working with the natural self-regulating and self-healing intelligence of the body to conduct the necessary regeneration of debt and damage that occurred from the layers of compensation. Finally optimization can occur where the person fully feels and expresses their maximum Quality of Life.
With all of this having been said; the patient is always in the driving seat based on their own definition of expected quality of life. However, the more frequent the adjustments, the quicker habits are upgraded. The quicker the habit changes, the quicker the progress through each phase of care, clearing out the layered deterioration and compensation, regaining the self-healing and self-regulating intelligence of the body and driving towards full expression of Life. With 2 or 3 adjustments per week over 3 months most people would have experienced a remarkable change and therefore better determination of expected quality of life. Within 18 - 24 months, most people will have changed their habit significantly enough that the expression of life is far higher than expected. Although the journey of health and happyness never ends, death being the only "cure", your quality of life is the only thing that can be guaranteed by your conscious effort. I look forward to walking with you through your journey.
