Health Survey Results

I have sent out a survey on 2 different occasions, asking general questions about health and healthcare. I have found the answers so enlightening that I thought I would share with you.

  • Nutrition is rated the most important health aspect, mindset is a close second, followed by sleep and hydration. Exercise and relaxation are rated the least important health aspects!

In practice, I have found that Mindset and relaxation techniques make the biggest difference in peoples’ health.

  • 63% of responders said they partake in daily tasks that promote their health; 3% said they do nothing to promote their health.
  • When specifically asked, most people do something for their nutrition or exercise on a regular basis. Some also prioritize mindset practices.

I am so grateful that majority of people are doing something regularly for their health however I find it interesting that people choose to exercise regularly when they rate it the least important health aspect and do not focus daily on their other “more important” aspects of health (as above).

  • It is a close call between who people choose to consult first with - a general practitioner or a complimentary practitioner (Chiropractor, homeopath etc). However, far few people choose to consult with a specialist or an alternative practitioner first.

I am super excited about this, as much as I think there are situations where your GP or specialist must be consulted first, I know that Chiropractors, Homeopaths and other complimentary practitioners play an important role in health care and this is being more recognized.

  • More people choose to consult with their primary health care practitioner (allopathic or complimentary) for regular check-ups than just simply when pain and symptoms appear.

Another super exciting result, healthcare by definition is far beyond just pain and symptom care and hopefully this indicates that people are wishing to know what their next step(s) forward are in their healthcare journey.

  • Unfortunately, 58% of responders indicate a negative reason(s) for having to take care of their health and half of the responders are on chronic medication.

It is still so common that people only start to change when something drastic happens and the human race still very unhealthy. We must shift this mindset for the next generation.

  • 29% of responders say that Chiropractors are bone doctors, 27% say energy doctors, 22% say muscle doctors, 12% say joint doctors and finally only 10% say nerve doctors.
  • Most people are confident that Chiropractors can help with muscle, tendon, joint, ligament, nerve pain.
  • More than 50% of responders said Chiropractors could help with circulatory, respiratory or digestive issues.
  • Less than 50% of responders said Chiropractors could impact neurological / psychological or behavioral issues.

These 4 showed me that the Chiropractic profession still has much work to do to shift the perception to what they are really designed to do – Basic Science research shows Chiropractic impacts the neurological interferences in the communication between the brain and the body systems. It is positive however that people’s confidence does stir outside of just pain care. This is a good start forward!

  • 59% of responders follow health content on social media.

Another great indication that people prioritize healthcare.
