Expanding your Healing State
As you arrive in the office for your next Chiropractic Adjustment, we recommend doing the following to get into your healing state:
1. Put your phone down, ensure you have the time set aside without distractions
Phones, especially the frequent notifications you get are stimulants and engage the sympathetic or stress state. This is in direct contrast to your healing state.
2. Hydrate your spine
The slow and controlled movement on the pin cushions activates your core strength, helping to prepare your spine for a great adjustment.
3. Read and get inspired with the motivation on the TV
Gratitude, inspiration, motivation etc. are all neurochemically linked to Dopamine and Seratonin, which are important for feeling good and releasing the hormones of stress.
4. Stretch your body / Do your Chiropractic Care Homework
Correct movement is the simplest way to release pressure, tension, pain, spasm, contraction and inflammation in the body. Each step along your care plan you will receive specific exercises or awareness to facilitate your healing. Now is a good time to practice!
5. Activate your posture
A body in alignment heals; a body out of alignment must compensate.
6. Get ready and comfortable for your adjustment
7. Lie face down
Lying face down in a comfortably manner on the Chiropractic table activates Melatonin (the hormone for rest and regulation of your circadian rhythm). Chiropractic tables also have a way of decompression your spine.
8. Slow breathing and calm your heart
The easiest way to activate the Parasympathetic Nervous system (the system that controls the healing state) is through calm, slow, full regulatory breathing. Make sure you can feel your heart rate slowing down.
Focus on your body alone and enjoy your adjustment
Mindful meditation is so simple. Focus on one thing and when your mind wanders; gently bring it back to the simple focus. Meditation is hugely profound in regulating many aspects of healing.
10. Take a 5-minute walk around our garden after your adjustment
Walking helps the brain integrate and process the adjustment allowing the maximum sustainable benefit to be received.
