How to Get Your Friends and Family under Chiropractic Care
Current participants often say to me: “Doc, I love coming for my regular adjustment and have told so many people how much better I feel but how do I convince them to come for chiropractic care?” It is important to realise that every human action is motivated by his or her current priorities. Let me explain this further: a person will only consult a practitioner of any sort when they hope and believe that the practitioner will be able to help them with their current challenge. The greater the challenge to their current quality of life, the greater the motivation they feel and the greater the urgency to get an appointment.
Western lifestyle and culture has brain-washed us into only consulting a practitioner when something has gone wrong – a pain, a symptom, a dis-ease, a dis-order, a syndrome! This is a great sadness in a world where knowledge and technology is far superior than giving just illness-care. In this age of potential Health, Happyness and Wellness care, world statistics show that the top 5 disease killers of humans are completely preventable. Does this make sense?
So when attempting to refer a friend or family member to chiropractic care, it would be useful to identify them in one of these types:
1) John, your annoying know-it-all uncle who loves telling stories like the time he broke his arm but still finished that game of rugby and scored the winning try. He has a self-cure to all his persistent ailments. He is tough… Basically, he is satisfied with his current state of health and does not believe that his quality of life could be better than what it currently is… “You have to get used to getting old; old-age is not for the faint-hearted!” To refer this type of person for chiropractic care is a challenge because there is one prerequisite: a person has got to want and believe in change. However if you truly believe that they would benefit from chiropractic care, offer them a complimentary spinal screening – this is a great introduction to our brand of chiropractic care and perhaps we can sway them towards an improved quality of life.
2) Sally, your best friend, has chronic health problems and is somewhere on the spectrum between someone who does not know much about her issues and someone who has consulted every person under the sun – including Professor Salim from the pamphlets handed out on street corners. These people are the best to refer but one can imagine that they may be hesitant due to the already expensive time and money experience they have encountered.
When referring them to Aspire Happyness Chiropractic, make mention that the consultation is only charged for if we believe we can help them with their challenges and that various financial packages are available to suit the needs and budgets of most people. Time is critical! Please note that the term chiropractic has different connotations in different people’s minds, so your potential referral may have an additional categorisation: Those who have been to a chiropractor and found it to be a great experience Those who have been to a chiropractor and found it to be a terrible experience Those who have never been to a chiropractor and have no understanding, some understanding, good or bad understanding of what chiropractors do It is always important to make mention that chiropractic is practiced from a specific philosophy, from strict science and most importantly from the art of healing. After all, every artist has his own brand – it’s like getting a haircut… just because you receive a bad haircut does that mean you will never have your hair cut again?
