I am sure gyms across the world love the first week in January – New Year’s Resolutions motivate people to join their local gym in the hope of losing weight or meeting some other goal. End of April – only a small proportion of people are still active members of their gym! People will exercise in the hope of satisfying various goals however, I broadly describe 4 benefits of exercise:

1) Get physically strong

2) Get mentally strong

3) Get fit

4) Get flexible Now here is where you may have got short changed… question yourself – does the exercise you are currently participating in give you 4 out of 4 benefits? Or are you making sacrifices in a few areas?

In my practice I consult with people who have various injuries that relate to their imbalance! Imbalance set up because they have not received their full money’s worth in benefits from their exercise. Let me explain in depth… Exercise of any sort is a challenge to the body and that is where the results will come from. Like any challenge you will need to deal with the challenge face on, adapt to the challenge, then heal and grow from the challenge. If you go through this process successfully every time, you will gain the full complement of benefit: physically strong and flexible in all movements, mentally strong in all facets of the mind, fitness and conditioning throughout the cardiovascular system! Does that not sound magnificent? Most people I have screened do not move accurately, effectively and efficiently, and therefore with the challenge of exercise instead of adaptation (then healing and growing), they have to compensate, decreasing the overall benefits and eventually decreasing the performance.

Some movements get strong yet lack flexibility, some movements are weak, the ego develops, pushing the body into its own demise, and the cardiovascular fitness has limitations in certain activities. To move accurately, effectively and efficiently your ‘core system’ needs to be active 24-7 and must be your primary mover. In simple terms: - The core system is not just your 6-pack muscles, - ‘Active’ means not just when a good-looking girl walks past, and… - ‘Primary mover’ means it initiates any and all movement from the simple to the complex In my personal and professional capacity I have only seen 4 people with a decent functioning core system; none with a complete core system and thousands upon thousands with an ineffective core system.

That means most, if not all of us, are compensating and unfortunately your injury is not an ‘if’ but rather a ‘when’. At Aspire Happyness Chiropractic we put our participants through a minimum of 12 week and a 12-step plan to educate them on how to get their core system on their side and finally get their money’s worth for the time and effort they have put in to exercise. If you are tired of exercising hard without the results you deserve let us check you and show you where you are being short-changed. Be the best you can be consistently!
