To Break Bread is to engage in a comfortable, friendly interaction. Originally, the term was literal, meaning that a loaf of bread would be broken to share and eat, a casual meal among associates. Today, the term is used to describe a social interaction where something is shared. This could be food, money, commodities, assets, or other various items.

In office we have two main scales that we work from that helps people to determine their compensation vs adaptibility.

1) the Pain / symptoms scale - from 0 to 10; how would you rate your pain (or symptoms) on a daily / regular basis? (0 is no pain and 10 is worst pain ever)

2) the functionality scale - from 0 to 10; how would you rate your functionality through activities of daily living to any challenge you wish to partake in?
(0 is no functionality; not able to do anything because of your problems &
10 is full functionality; you can do whatever you want to be able to do & your body does not stop you)

Now if you challenge your body, increase by 1 or 2 points on the scale how does your pain scale react?

If you have temporary or no shift in pain and you are able to challenge more the next time with a similar response then you are most likely adapting.

If you cannot challenge at all or it results in protracted increase in pain especially if you are further limited for some weeks and months after then you are most likely compensating.

Where do you fair?

In our office patients are often consumed with pain and suffering.

I wish that under our guidance, you have enough hope to do what it takes to achieve your freedom from your inflictions.

It is our sole focus to help your restore your lost quality of life.

And our greatest achievements are when we have walked a long and arduous journey and eventually the person feels that freedom.

I hope you had a fantastic freedom day.

We regularly have the conversation with patients about "is it not normal?"

So let's make it clear; anytime you have a regular dysfunction, pain or symptom even if it is infrequently - it is not normal.

Many will attempt to make it normal by saying that many have the same issues...that still does not mean it is normal.

If common place was normal then normal would be common place. We do not propose that common place is the goal. We propose that your best is normal; anything less is not how it is supposed to be...

We will always focus and find the solutions to help you find your new normal!

When last where you normal?

As we move into the colder winter months taking care of your immune system becomes even more important.

What I have found about JHB winter that strongly challenges the immune system:
1)    The strong fluctuations of temperatures from morning cold through the mid-day pleasant especially in the direct sunlight to the cold of the evening.
2)    The icy cold wind chills that hit from time to time that challenges your core body temperature; you know when you feel like the cold is in your bones?
3)    The dryness of the air which is contributed by the constant use of heaters which dry the air further
4)    The pollution that filters the air because of the burning of wood and coal in the townships.

Please let me know if you or your family members struggle with their immune system so we can proactive target them now!

The body is designed to be supported by the tone in the stability muscles of the body. When those stability muscles become lazy and go on holiday, the movement muscles have to dedicate some of their function to supporting the body. This over time overloads these muscles leading to pain and inflammation...

A majority of patients, especially those with chronic back pain, have a limited stabilty muscle tone. This generally gets worse than longer the problem is in place for and this makes the issue more chronic.

Do you want to know how you tell?
